Past Shows - Cabaret
Willkommen
(Welcome) to the Cabaret sings the Emcee of the Kit Kat Club through
painted lips, as the people of the Berlin of 1929 join him.
The Kit Kat Klub is a cross section of Berlin nightlife thronged with overweight, middle class Germans, prostitutes, homosexuals and the flotsam and jetsam of this doomed city as the Nazis are rising to power.
Cabaret focuses on the nightlife at this decadent, yet seedy nightclub and revolves around a young English cabaret performer Sally Bowles who, as becomes apparent, has not been employed for her voice, and her relationship with a young American writer Cliff Bradshaw, who is frantically searching for inspiration for his second novel.
As the story unfolds, overseeing it all is the Emcee of the Kit Kat Klub serving as a constant reminder of the tenuous and threatening state of late Weimar Germany throughout the show.
Despite its dark undertones, this is a highly entertaining show with great musical numbers which include:
Willkommen, Meeskite, Why Should I Wake Up?, Perfectly Marvelous, Sitting Pretty, Tomorrow Belongs to Me, Cabaret, Don't Tell Mama, It Couldn't Please Me More and Two Ladies.
